چکیده

In this paper, we investigate the performance of a serially concatenated CPM-OFDM (Continuous Phase Modulation Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) scheme in various frequency selective fading environments that are typical for aeronautical telemetry. CPM-OFDM is a novel modulation technique that assigns the sampled, complex outputs of a CPM to a set of orthogonal subcarriers for a DFT-precoded OFDM style transmission. This approach maintains much of the power efficiency of CPM while incorporating the spectral efficiency of OFDM. At the receiver, low complexity frequency domain equalization techniques can be applied to mitigate the impact of the radio channel. Although uncoded CPM-OFDMA has been investigated, coded CPM-OFDMA is a new area of focus, which promises to offer good performance in highly dynamic telemetry environments. The serially concatenated code is comprised of an inner code and an outer code. The inner code is generated from the discretetime samples of a PCM-FM modulation while the outer code is derived from a nonrecursive convolutional code. We evaluate the proposed scheme over the additive white Gaussian noise channel as well as in two frequency selective fading environments that are characteristic of aeronautical telemetry.

On the Performance of Spectrally Efficient Cpm-ofdma for Aeronautical Telemetry

In this paper, we discuss CPM-OFDMA (Continuous Phase Modulation Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) a novel modulation that maps a discrete-time CPM into a spectrally efficient DFTspread OFDMA transmission. Three CPM-OFDMA schemes are developed based on discrete-time variants of PCM/FM, SOQPSK-TG and ARTM-CPM telemetry modulations. Simulations reveal that spectrally efficient CPM-OF...

A Novel Multi-h Cpm-sc-fdma Transmission Scheme for Aeronautical Telemetry

In this paper, we propose multi-h CPM-SC-FDMA, a novel transmission scheme which combines many of the key characteristics of continuous phase modulation (CPM) with single carrier Frequency Division Multiple Access (SC-FDMA) to produce a power efficient, robust modulation which is suitable for high-rate multiple-access aeronautical telemetry applications. The basis of our approach is found in th...

Shaped O set QPSK Capacity

In this work we compute the capacities and the pragmatic capacities of militarystandard shaped-o set quadrature phase-shift keying (SOQPSK-MIL) and aeronautical telemetry SOQPSK (SOQPSK-TG). In the pragmatic approach, SOQPSK is treated as a modulation scheme as opposed to an encoder, and no iterations are performed between the SOQPSK demodulator and the outer binary decoder. We also evaluate th...

Serially Concatenated Coded M-ary Continuous Phase Modulation with Bit- Interleaver

This letter investigates a serially concatenated convolutional coded M-ary continuous phase modulation (CPM). Using the decomposition model of a CPM system, the soft-input-soft-output detectors for M-ary CPM is investigated in detail. Based on these, the performance of bit-interleaved coded-modulation (BICM) schemes is studied. Simulation results show that due to the presence of the conversion ...

Symbol Timing Recovery for SOQPSK

Shaped offset quadrature phase shift keying (SOQPSK) is a highly bandwidth efficient modulation technique used widely in military and aeronautical telemetry standards. It can be classified as a form of continuous phase modulation (CPM), but its major distinction from other CPM schemes is that it has a constrained (correlated) ternary data alphabet. CPM-based detection models for SOQPSK have bee...
